Kicking Scoring Drill

Kicking/Scoring Refined Drill

Setup:

  1. Square Formation: Mark out a square in front of the goal, 35–45 meters per side, using cones numbered 1, 2, 3, and 4.
  2. Balls: Place the balls at cone 1 to start.

Drill Instructions:

  1. Passing Sequence:
    • 1 to 2: Player at cone 1 kick-passes to the player at cone 2.
    • 2 to 3: Player at cone 2 receives the pass, adjusts, and kick-passes to the player at cone 3.
    • 3 to 4: Player at cone 3 receives the pass and delivers a slip hand-pass to the player at cone 4.
  2. Scoring:
    • The player at cone 4 takes a shot on goal and then rotates to cone 1 to restart the sequence.

Key Variation:

  • Change Cone Numbers:
    • Every 2–3 minutes, reassign the cone numbers (e.g., switch 4 to a different cone). This changes the angle of the passes and scoring shot, introducing variety and encouraging players to adapt to different setups.

Two Grids Option:

For larger groups, set up two grids:

  • One on the left of the goal.
  • One on the right of the goal. This ensures all players get more involvement with passes and shots.

Purpose:

  1. Forwards: Practice movement to meet the ball, composure before shooting, and adapting to different scoring angles.
  2. Midfielders/Defenders: Focus on timing runs, delivering accurate kick passes, and transitioning into attacking phases.
  3. Team Coordination: The sequence helps player:
    • Maintain fluid movement.
    • Develop quick decision-making.
    • Build synergy in attacking play.

This drill offers excellent repetition of core skills while keeping players engaged through the varying angles and grid setups.
