Unopposed Scoring Drill

Unopposed Scoring Drill

Drill Setup

  1. Equipment Needed:
    • Plenty of balls.
    • Cones to mark the setup.
    • Two coaches (Coach A and Coach B) positioned at specific spots with balls to feed players.
  2. Area:
    • A small-sided pitch or designated scoring area with two goals.
    • Space for a weave and shooting lanes for left/right-footed points.
  3. Players:
    • At least 3 attackers (Player 1, 2, 3).
    • 1 defender (optional for progression).

Drill Instructions

  1. Phase 1: Initial Weave and Goal Attempt
    • Players 1, 2, and 3 begin a three-player weave toward the goal.
    • The middle player (Player 2) finishes the weave with a shot on goal.
  2. Phase 2: Point Attempts
    • After shooting, Players 1 and 3 each receive a ball:
      • Coach A feeds Player 1 for a left-footed point attempt.
      • Coach B feeds Player 3 for a right-footed point attempt.
  3. Phase 3: Tracking Performance
    • Record:
      • Number of scores made.
      • Accuracy percentages for each type of shot.

Progressions

  1. Add Defensive Pressure:
    • Include a defender who chases the weave to pressure the goal scorer.
    • The defender can also recover to contest the point attempts.
  2. Different Scoring Types:
    • Adjust scoring to include dummy solo, fisted points, or shots on the turn.
    • Coaches feed balls to additional players running in from deep.
  3. Timed Challenge:
    • Players aim to achieve the highest possible score or accuracy within a set time (e.g., 2 minutes).
  4. Conditioned Scoring Zones:
    • Award extra points for scoring in specific zones (e.g., top corners of the goal).

Key Focus Areas

  • Technical Skills: Accurate left/right-footed shooting, goal-scoring precision.
  • Teamwork: Efficient execution of the weave.
  • Decision-Making: Selecting the right shot type under pressure.
  • Intensity: Quick recovery to take subsequent shots.
