Vision Ball Advanced

Vision Ball Advanced

Advanced Vision Ball (10v6) - GAA Drill

This advanced version builds on the original Vision Ball by introducing more complexity through multiple balls, larger teams, and the strategic focus on a single scoring ball. It tests the attackers' ability to multitask and manage possessions while requiring defenders to work as a cohesive unit under pressure.

Pitch Setup:

  • Dimensions: 50m x 50m square.
  • Goals: 2 goals positioned along the end line that the defenders are tasked with protecting.

Teams and Equipment:

  • Attackers: 10 players with possession of 6 balls.
  • Defenders: 6 players defending the 2 goals.
  • Special Ball: One of the 6 balls is marked as a distinct color (e.g., yellow).

Objectives:

For Attackers:
  • Retain possession of all 6 balls while working as a team to create scoring opportunities.
  • Only the yellow ball can be used to score in either of the two goals. This requires attackers to think strategically and coordinate their movements effectively.
Defenders:
  • Dispossess the attackers and prevent scores in the goals. They can do this by intercepting passes, pressuring ball carriers, or forcing mistakes.
Rules:
  1. Attackers must keep all 6 balls in play. If an attacker holding a ball wants to support the play (e.g., move into a better position to support ), they must offload their ball to a teammate without a ball to a team mate to free themselves up to be an option.
    • This ensures continuous decision-making and communication among attackers.
  2. The yellow ball is the only ball that can be used to score.
    • Attackers must work together to retain possession of the yellow ball while managing the other 5 balls.
    • This challenges spatial awareness, as attackers need to track both the scoring opportunity and ball distribution simultaneously.
  3. Defenders can target any ball to disrupt the attackers’ rhythm.
    • Forcing turnovers can limit the attackers’ ability to use the yellow ball effectively.
Key Focus Areas:
  • Attackers:
    • Communication and teamwork to distribute balls and maintain possession.
    • Awareness of where the yellow ball is and how to transition it into a scoring position.
    • Movement off the ball to create space and support teammates.
  • Defenders:
    • Coordinated pressing to isolate attackers or dispossess them.
    • Decision-making on when to pressure the yellow ball versus disrupting possession of the other balls.
